Tour Description:
After meeting of your guide at the meeting point no later than 10 minutes before the tour departure time, you will begin acquaintance with the wonderful city of Almaty from its sports center, where the Central Stadium and Baluan Sholak Sports Palace is located. Further along the route you will see the Mukhtar Auezov Kazakh Drama Theater and the Kazakh State Circus.
Having reached one of the stations of Almaty subway, you will go down underground to a depth of 30 meters to take a ride in a modern subway car to Abai station. Coming out of the subway, you will get into the heart of the so-called "Golden Square", with its cozy streets and squares, dozens of restaurants and many interesting places. During a leisurely walk through the central streets of the city, you will hear a fascinating story of the guide about the history and development of Almaty, as well as about the sights that you will meet on the route.
You will walk on Abai Square, which is the center of the architectural ensemble, consisting of such famous city buildings as the Palace of the Republic, the Kazakhstan Hotel building, as well as station of cable car to Kok-Tobe Hill. From Abai Square you will walk in direction of Abai Opera and Ballet Theater, from which Panfilov pedestrian street begins. This street with comfortable benches and fountains, souvenir shops and cafes, is chosen by street musicians and artists for their performances.
Further, you will continue the walk to Astana Square (Old Square). Bypassing the square with British Technical University building (the former Government House of Kazakh SSR), then Aliya Moldagulova and Manshuk Mametova monument, you will find yourself in the heart of the cultural life of the city - the walking part of Zhibek Zholy Street, known among the citizens as "Arbat". At Zhibek Zholy Street you can watch the exhibitions of paintings by local artists and frequent cultural events. In this part of the city the tour ends, but you can continue to walk on your own in numerous shops or at the Central Department Store, which is known for fashionable boutiques and a large selection of souvenir products.
